Swan Leisure Swim Club aims to make Olympic dreams come true!
The squad pathway is carefully planned with strong emphasis on quality rather than quantity. Our squad swimmers gain ability and confidence through a variety of activities which include internal and external competition, dry land training, school holiday camps, strength and conditioning sessions.
The partnerships we have with Swan Leisure Centre fitness trainers provide for a holistic approach to developing athletes, allowing each individual to perform at their very best in all aspects of life.

Squads for all swimming levels

Whatever your swimming aspirations, and whatever your current ability, at Swan Swimming Club, we we provide squads for all abilities, from those who are just making their first steps to competent swimmers. Our squads include:

Junior Development Squad

Description

An introducing to squad training. An emphasis on stroke technique – learning drills and skills within a friendly and encouraging environment. Swimmers who progressed from Swan Leisure Centre Lessons and are interested in swimming in a squad with a view to improve swimming skills, fitness and have fun

Criteria

  • - Able to demonstrate front crawl, backstroke and breaststroke
  • - Have confident in deep water
  • - Sessions expected to attend – 75%
  • - Sessions Duration – 1 hour
  • - Sessions offered per week – 2
  • - Target age – 7-9

Junior Squad

Description

An opportunity for swimmers to enhace technique, improve cardiovascular fitness and became familiar with competitive swimming. For swimmers who enjoy swimming as a sport. This group aims to develop sound technique. Aimed at Junior Athletes are interested in swimming with a view to further improve swimming skills, fitness and to have fun.

Criteria

  • - Perform all 4 strokes with sound technique
  • - Understand sets and drills in swimming
  • - Encouraged to have Swan swimming gear – T-shirt, swimming tog and cap
  • - Sessions expected to attend – 75%
  • - Sessions Duration – 1 hour – 2 hours
  • - Sessions offered per week – 4 + land training
  • - Target age – 9-11

Development Squad

Description

For swimmers who have selected swimming as one of their sports. This group caters for a range of individual goals, which include competitive swimming, fitness, lifesaving or water polo. Aimed at this squad are: - swimmers who are interested in competitive swimming with a view to achieve Irish Division 2 National Qualification Time - swimmers interested in swimming for enjoyment and fitness with a view to transition to TeenFit when they turn 13/14

Criteria

  • - Perform all 4 strokes with sound technique
  • - Complete swimming sets on a designing time (e.g. 8x50 FC @1:10)
  • - Have Swan swimming gear – T-shirt, swimming tog and cap
  • - Sessions expected to attend – 75%
  • - Sessions Duration – 1 hour – 2 hours + land training
  • - Sessions offered per week – 4
  • - Target age – 10-14

Senior Squad

Description

For swimmers who aged in their teenage years and wish to maintain swimming fitness. This squad is ideal for athletes that enjoy the squad environment and swimming as their fitness option but do not necessarily wish to compete.

Criteria

  • - Perform all 4 strokes with sound technique
  • - Understand sets and drills in swimming
  • - Encouraged to have Swan swimming gear – T-shirt, swimming tog and cap
  • - Sessions Duration – 1 hour
  • - Sessions offered per week – 3
  • - Target age – 13-18
